Prospective Client
Through our combined 75+ years of financial services experience, our team has worked with many different types of people. We have extensive experience working with folks who've never done any financial planning, as well as extensive experience with people who have done a lot of financial planning: and everyone in-between. Our team focuses on you, your story, and your dreams. Then, it's our responsibility to create a plan for you to accomplish those dreams.
What's the benefit of financial planning?
Each client's story is personal to them, so everyone benefits differently from working with us. With that said, we've found there are four main constants:
- Confidence: by working with our team and having a blueprint to follow, you often have more confidence in your money decisions.
- Ongoing Relationship: us humans sometimes require outside opinions to validate our feelings or decisions. If you choose to work with us, rest assured you'll have the same team at your side at all times. Sometimes it's hard to remember why you decided to do something, but we are there to remind you what the purpose of that decision was and why it matters still today.
- Comprehensive Advice: Unlike many advisors, we focus on every possible financial topic that's present in your lives. Although we're not estate planning attorneys or tax preparers, we will often work with those professionals to ensure the advice you're getting matches your financial plan.
- Getting out of your own way: It's no secret that we're our own worst enemy at times. Having a financial planning team on your side makes it easier to know you can stick to your plan instead of get in your own way.
More Than Just Words
It seems like many people have experiences with financial advisors that are less than stellar. One reason we've found is that often times, clients won't get a true plan. They may get told what recommendations the advisor has, but rarely is that recommendation backed up by anything other than that advisor's opinion or experience. The reality is that every client is unique and faces unique opportunities and challenges related to their money. That's why when you work with our team, every client gets a set of recommendations along with a hard-copy of a financial plan that backs up those recommendations with the math involved in it. In addition to a physical financial plan, here are a few other things we offer to our clients:
What's Covered in a Financial Plan
"Budgeting"
Rather than a traditional, old-school "budget," we help our clients create good spending habits that ensure they pay themselves first.
Short Term Savings
Whether it's an emergency fund or a purchase of a home in 12 months, we will analyze your current short-term savings and give recommendations to make sure you're properly covered.
Risk Management
Life never goes exactly according to plan. That's why it's important to do a review of possible risks to your financial plan and cover them as best as we possibly can.
Retirement Planning
We want to make work optional for you. To do that, it takes planning with a purpose. In addition, we don't stop once we've crossed the 'Retirement' finish line. We keep working with you all the way through the end of retirement.
Estate Planning
Making sure your life wishes are honored in regard to who receives your estate is crucial. We will refer you to trusted estate planning attorneys and other professionals as necessary. We do not collect a referral fee.
Tax Planning
One of life's biggest costs is taxes. They come in many shapes and sizes: income tax, IRMAA tax, capital gains tax, estate tax, the list goes on. We will be mindful of all of these while planning for you and will bring in trusted partners to cover areas we don't. We do not collect a referral fee.
Health Care
Making sure you have the right health insurance for your situation is crucial. You don't want to be overinsured or underinsured. That's why we review your coverage and available options.
Wealth Accumulation
Whether it's education for your kids/grandkids, a vacation property for the winters, or something else, we want to help you achieve the goals you've set out for.
Charitable Giving
Churchill said, "We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give." We make it a focus to make sure you spread your wealth with those important to you in the best manner possible.
Okay what's the process like?
Each client's situation is different, therefore it's possible the process to become a client may be quicker or slower depending on the person. First, we'll start with a call to get to know each other, understand your goals, and answer any questions you have. Then we move into the discovery process which typically takes two to three meetings to learn about your values, fears, dreams and wishes. After this, we will create your financial plan and present it to you. After you've signed off on the plan, we'll help you implement any recommendations and review your plan with you either semiannually or annually, depending on your situation.
Simple Consultation
We understand that some folks may only have one or two questions on a specific topic and want to get a second opinion before they pull the trigger on a decision. Because of this, we want to offer a way to work with us that's free of charge. These clients will get recommendations for their one topic of choice.
Cost for consultation: $0
Comprehensive Planning
Most of our clients find this as the best fit for them. These clients will receive a financial plan covering all areas of planning and will meet with us either semiannually or annually to make any updates.
Cost: Hourly Rate of $250/hr with most financial plans ranging from $1500-$3500
Minimum annual planning fee of $1200/month with increased cost for increased client needs/complexity.
Wealth Management
Most of our clients prefer us to manage their investments for them, although it's not required to do comprehensive planning. Clients who hire us to invest their assets do so for several reasons: less time required of them to implement changes, professional oversight of their funds, and ease of having everything in one place.
Cost: typically a 1% fee of assets under management (subject to change depending on client needs)
How We Work
Our first priority is helping you take care of yourself and your family. We want to learn more about your personal situation, identify your dreams and goals, and understand your tolerance for risk. Long-term relationships that encourage open and honest communication have been the cornerstone of my foundation of success.
